Small school...Big difference!
Afterlee is part of COLOURSS (Community of Learners of Upper Richmond Small Schools) These schools come together regularly for excursions, Science days, NAIDOC days, cultural days as well as swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. These 'Trading Colours Days' allow the students to build valuable friendships within in this wider community. Important life skills are learnt during visits from Healthy Harold (Life Education Van), Interrelate program and the Social Futures Emotional Resilience Workshop.
We might be a small school but the learning opportunities are extensive and varied.
It doesn't matter what your personal interest or talent is, at Afterlee every child gets the opportunity to shine. We asked the students, "What are some of the great opportunities and experiences you've been given?"
"Public Speaking! I never imagined I would get the chance to speak on stage at the Lismore City Hall," said Erin, Year 5.
"Our school has exhibited our artwork at the Roxy Gallery, the Kyogle Show and on the power poles around Kyogle," said Mallee, year 5.
"It was great having a basketball coach come to school to train us and build up our skills," said lzaac and Ashton, year 4. They also mentioned how much they enjoyed the Emotional Resilience workshop they did.
"Basketball was fun but I really enjoyed the gymnastics and all the equipment they brought out" Amber, year 3.
"I love the excursions like the Writers Festival, Norpa performances and recently going to Qpac in Brisbane to see George and his marvellous medicine," said Joe, year 4.
"It was really good having coaches come out to train us for Athletics and go and compete against other schools. I also thought the Hip Hop workshop was cool," said Noah, year 2.
"The swimming lessons were good and then we got to compete at the carnival," Savannah, year 1.
Afterlee's motto is small school - big difference. This is a philosophy that Afterlee strives for as it enters into its 100th year in 2019. Enrolments currently sought.
