Sunday 6th October saw Afterlee Public School celebrate their centenary. A huge number of visitors attended, with many ex-students and teachers travelling long distances to be part of this special day.
Our formal proceedings began with Principal Mrs Robin Wheeler, former Principal Mrs Deborah Brown, Janelle Saffin MP, Member for Lismore and John Burley, Deputy Mayor at Kyogle Council, who has a long history with the school and close association with the Afterlee community. A plaque was unveiled by Relieving Richmond Department of Education Leader, Mr Peter Flannery and a Wollemi Pine planted to mark the occasion.
Performances by present and past students and teachers were enjoyed and some good old fun was had in the form of three legged, sack races and of course a fiercely contended tug-o-war. The Afterlee students really wowed the crowd with their singing and dancing. The cake cutting was done by ex-student, Mrs Merle Aboody (nee Russ), age 93 and our youngest current student, Xarya Adams, age 5.
Congratulations Afterlee for providing 100 years of public education.
